News came out on Thursday evening via The Baltimore Sun reporter Aaron Wilson that the Redskins were sending a contingent believed to include defensive line coach Rob Akey and defensive quality control coordinator Chadd Grimm down to Georgia to visit with Alvin ‘Bud’ Dupree.

Dupree has been rising up mock draft boards in the past week following successful visits with numerous teams across the NFL, and some analysts are now considering him to be a potential Redskin at pick #5 overall. Others however (including our own RCC Mock Draft) still see Dupree as a mid to late 1st round prospect.
In his four years with the University of Kentucky, his last 3 as a starter, Dupree registered 23.5 sacks and 36 tackles for a loss from the Defensive End position. At 6’4 and 270lbs, Dupree relies on his raw athleticism more than technique to cause havoc in opposition backfields, as noted by Mark Bullock’s in-depth look at him for the Washington Post.
Further adding fuel to the fires of speculation regarding whether or not Dupree is worthy of being considered at #5 overall, Lance Zierlien from SportsTalk790 in Houston, who also is NFL.com’s draft scout, recently shared an insight from an NFC East executive:
“He’s a little slow to diagnose, which causes him to get a late start on plays. I would ask him to drop into space in zone dog looks and that’s about it. To me, he’s a pure see ’em, get ’em 3-4 rush end.” — NFC East regional scout
If the Redskins are looking seriously at Dupree, at this stage I have to think it’s more likely that they are looking at him as a potential target if the Redskins end up trading down from #5. Dupree is an exciting prospect, but given that it’s likely that at least one of Dante Fowler Jr, Vic Beasley, or Leonard Williams will be available at the 5th pick, all of whom are more polished prospects than Dupree, I would be surprised to see the Redskins considering him if they stay put.
