With another divisional matchup this weekend, there is plenty of reason to get excited. The Redskins will be in a big hole if they can’t win this game, and that means they will need players to step up and have a big game. The importance of each player doesn’t stop there, as another game means another week of fantasy football. Now let’s take a look at which Redskins players are in play for your daily fantasy football lineups in Week 3.
Before diving into the individual positions, a quick look at the Vegas lines reveals that Washington is projected to score 20.50 points this week. That’s the 11th lowest team total this week, and means that it’s not very likely for them to score more than three touchdowns in this game.
Kirk Cousins
FanDuel Price: $7,200
DrafKings Price: $6,400
After a rocky start in Week 1, Kirk Cousins had a respectable 18.56 fantasy points against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. Adding another touchdown instead of an interception in the redzone would have launched him into the top 10 fantasy quarterbacks of the week, but it didn’t go that way.
The New York Giants provide the toughest matchup this season for Cousins, as they have held both quarterbacks they’ve faced this season (including Drew Brees) under 300 passing yards, and have only given up one passing touchdown.
Since taking over as the starter last season, Cousins has averaged five less fantasy points per game when playing on the road vs. at FedEx Field. Despite his cheap price on both FanDuel and Draftkings, Cousins should be avoided this week.
Matt Jones
FanDuel Price: $6,400
DrafKings Price: $4,100
After attempting just 29 runs through the first two weeks, Jay Gruden has been adamant this week about needing to run the ball more. Saying that is one thing, but making it happen is another.
The Redskins are 4.5 point underdogs this week, meaning they will likely be playing from behind, forcing them to lean on their passing attack. Last week against the Giants, Mark Ingram only rushed nine times. The Giants front seven has also been very stout against the run thus far, holding opposing running backs under 100 yards in each game, and have only given up one rushing touchdown this season.
Matt Jones is too expensive on FanDuel this week, and should be avoided there. He is worth a look if you on DraftKings if you spend up elsewhere in your lineup and need a cheap flyer at running back. If he can find the endzone in this one, he will likely payoff his cost there at only 8% of the total salary cap.
Chris Thompson
FanDuel Price: $5,100
DrafKings Price: $3,400
Chris Thompson will be up against that same tough run defense as Jones, and doesn’t have the floor of being the starting running back. He has only touched the ball 11 times through the first two games, and hasn’t been a fantasy factor thus far. However, he did have the best game of his career against the Giants in Week 3 last year, and could be used in a similar role this week. In that game, he was used largely in the passing attack, and finished with eight receptions and 22.60 PPR fantasy points.
At only 7% of the salary cap on DraftKings (which awards a whole point per reception), Thompson could be used as a cheap flyer in tournaments. His low floor makes him unplayable in cash games, and he should be avoided all together on FanDuel.
Jamison Crowder
FanDuel Price: $5,000
DrafKings Price: $3,800
The Giants have been dominant against opposing wide receivers this season, holding everyone under 70 receiving yards, and only giving up one touchdown to a wide receiver. They are most dominant on the outside, where Eli Apple and Janoris Jenkins have held opposing receivers to 0.20 and 0.14 fantasy points per route, respectively. That takes DeSean Jackson and Pierre Garcon out of consideration for fantasy purposes this week.
Where the Giants do bend in the passing game is in the slot, where Jamison Crowder has ran 78% of his routes in 2016. Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie mans the slot 85% of the time, and has given up the most fantasy points per route among New York’s top three cornerbacks. He’ll be tasked with covering Crowder, who is tied for the team lead with 18 targets through the first two games.
At his cheap price, Crowder is in play in cash games on both sites. He is a great value on DraftKings, with their PPR format.
Jordan Reed
FanDuel Price: $7,500
DrafKings Price: $6,500
With the Giants cornerbacks locking down the outside, the middle of the field will open up for Jordan Reed to capitalize. Along with Jason Witten, Reed leads all tight ends with nine targets per game this season, and is fourth at his position with 67 yards per game.
He averaged seven catches and 97 yards against the Giants last season and is tied with Crowder atop the Redskins targets list in 2016. Reed is the most expensive tight end on DraftKings, and behind only Greg Olsen on Fanduel, but remains in play in all formats.
Dustin Hopkins
FanDuel Price: $4,500
DrafKings Price: N/A
The Giants have picked up where they left off last season, giving up the most fantasy points to opposing kickers for the second year in a row. They have given up at least one field goal of 40 yards or more in each game.
Dustin Hopkins has made three field goals in each of the first two weeks, and hasn’t missed once. He’s at minimum price on FanDuel, making him one of the best value plays at any position. He should be used in all formats.
