Who saw this one coming? I sure didn’t. I even got the Jordan sad face to prove it… BUT
The Washington Redskins have signed Josh Norman to a 5 year deal worth $75 million dollars, with $50 million guaranteed.
Norman will earn himself $15 mil in 2016, which is the most of any player at his position. A cool million more than Darrelle Revis, Patrick Peterson, and Richard Sherman.
Overall, Norman is the highest paid CB in the NFL by $5 million dollars. So it’s easy to say he’s the happiest man in the NFL tonight. Can’t say the same for Odell Beckham Jr and Dez Bryant. Speaking of good battles, the very first game of the season will feature Josh Norman vs Antonio Brown. Get your popcorn ready!
Moving forward, the Redskins secondary suddenly is looking like one of the strengths of the team. Bashaud Breeland is going to make a great tag team partner to Norman, and becomes even more dangerous now that he will be pairing up against opponent’s WR2. The wild card will be what happens with Chris Culliver who is owed $8 million in 2016 and is coming off an ACL injury. It’s not yet clear if he’ll become a cap casualty with Norman’s arrival or if he’ll be staying put and Scot McCloughan moves money from elsewhere. Another possibility is that Culliver could find himself moving to Safety. Speaking of position changes, let’s not forget about Will Blackmon who just signed a new year deal with the Redskins. Look for him to play Nickel or also move to Safety. Quinton Dunbar came out of nowhere last year and will continue to grow and develop. Deangelo Hall got more comfortable at Safety as the year went on and is a legend in his own right. It’s looking like the defense could very well end up reviving the Capital Punishment nickname after all…
Circle your calendars for December 18, I know Norman does. The Panthers will meet the Redskins on Monday Night Football, week 15 of the season.
